“The most moving event during my visit to Montreal from Beer Sheva was the Yom Hazikaron ceremony. It was so emotional – the passages that were recited, the songs and the words of the speakers. The singing of Hatikva at the end of the evening left me with tears in my eyes. At that moment I felt most connected with my Jewish identity and I experienced the most patriotic feelings I have ever had. When you’re in a foreign country and you’re representing Israel, everything takes on a different meaning.“

The Yom Hazikaron commemoration ceremony in memory of Israel’s fallen soldiers and victims of terror takes place on Sunday, May 8 at 5:00 pm at the Gelber Conference Centre, 1 Cummings Square (corner Côte Ste-Catherine and Westbury, métro Côte Ste-Catherine).

“The West Island Yom Ha’atzmaut street party is an event that I NEVER miss!! I think that I have as much fun as my kids do! There isn’t a more beautiful sight than smiling faces and waving Israeli flags as I walk up Westpark Blvd. This is a celebration not be missed!”

The celebration takes place on Tuesday, May 10 at 5 pm at Federation CJA West Island, 96 Roger Pilon, DDO.
